How This Calculator Works
Every calendar date falls on exactly one day of the week. Pick any date — past, present, or
future — and this calculator instantly tells you whether it’s a Sunday, Monday, and so on,
plus whether it falls on a weekend.
How It Works Under the Hood
This calculator projects the modern Gregorian calendar (the one most of the world uses today)
backwards and forwards indefinitely, which is accurate for any date in the Gregorian era. For very
old dates, this may not exactly match the calendar actually in use at the time in every region —
different countries switched from the older Julian calendar to the Gregorian one at different
points, mostly between the 1500s and early 1900s.
Worked Example
January 1, 2000 falls on a Saturday. As a well-known historical check: July 4, 1776 — the date
the U.S. Declaration of Independence was adopted — falls on a Thursday.
UU. — cae en
jueves.
How far back or forward does this calculator work?
It works for any date the browser's own date picker supports, projecting the modern Gregorian calendar backwards and forwards indefinitely. For dates before a given region's actual historical switch from the Julian calendar (mostly between the 1500s and early 1900s), the result may not exactly match the calendar in use at the time in that specific place.
What's the difference between this and the Days Between Dates Calculator?
Days Between Dates finds the DURATION between two dates. This calculator instead answers a single-date question: which day of the week does one specific date fall on.
Can I use this to find what day I was born on?
Yes — enter your birth date and this calculator tells you which day of the week it was. Pair it with the Age Calculator to also find out exactly how old you are.
