How This Calculator Works
A currency exchange rate is the price of one currency expressed in another — and it changes
constantly as global markets trade. Enter an amount and pick a “from” and “to” currency, and
this calculator converts it using a real exchange rate fetched live when the page loads — not a
fixed table baked into the site that goes stale the day it’s published. Use the swap button to
flip the two currencies without re-entering anything.
Exchange rates move every business day, sometimes by a meaningful amount over weeks or months, so
a currency converter is only actually useful if its rate is current. This one fetches a fresh rate
each time you load the page or change the “from” currency, and shows the exact date the rate is
from underneath the result.
The Formula
Currency conversion is a single multiplication once you have the right rate:
Converted Amount=Amount×Exchange Rate
The rate itself isn’t calculated — it’s a real, published market rate for that specific currency
pair, fetched at the moment you use the calculator.
Worked Example
Converting $100 USD to EUR on a day when the published rate is 0.876 EUR per USD:
Rate: 1 USD = 0.876 EUR.
Converted amount: 100 × 0.876 = €87.60.
If the rate moves the next day to 0.881, the same $100 would convert to $88.10 instead —
which is exactly why this calculator fetches a live rate instead of reusing yesterday’s number.
Rates come from the European Central Bank's daily reference rates (via the Frankfurter API), typically updated once each weekday around 16:00 CET. They are indicative market rates, not the exact rate a bank or payment provider will give you for an actual transaction.
Why might my bank or card give a different rate?
Banks, card networks, and money-transfer services add their own markup or fee on top of the market rate shown here, and their own rates update on their own schedule — this calculator is for estimating value, not for predicting the exact rate on a real transaction.
