Worked Example

Traveling 300 km in 4 hours:

  1. Speed: 300÷4=75 km/h\vA{300} \div \vB{4} = \vC{75} \text{ km/h}.

All three solve-for modes agree: entering 75 km/h and 4 hours finds 300 km; entering 75 km/h and 300 km finds 4 hours — each direction gives the same consistent trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate average speed?

Average speed is total distance divided by total time — Speed = Distance ÷ Time. This gives the average rate over the whole trip, not necessarily how fast you were going at any one moment (which can vary with traffic, stops, or terrain).

How is this different from the Running Pace Calculator?

Both use the same underlying distance/time relationship, but this calculator works in everyday speed units (mph, km/h) for general travel, while Running Pace works in minutes-per-mile or minutes-per-kilometer, the format runners actually use to track workouts.

Can I use this to estimate travel time for a trip?

Yes — use "Time" mode with your expected average speed and the trip distance. Keep in mind this gives a straight-line estimate at a constant speed; real travel time varies with traffic, stops, and speed limit changes along the route.
