How This Calculator Works

Hours worked is the time between clock-in and clock-out, minus any unpaid break. Enter when you clocked in, when you clocked out, and how many minutes of unpaid break you took, and this calculator returns your total hours worked — plus your total pay, if you enter an hourly rate.

This calculator handles overnight shifts correctly: if your clock-out time is earlier in the day than your clock-in time (like working 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM), it assumes the shift crossed midnight rather than treating it as an error.

The Formula

Worked Example

Clocking in at 9:00 AM, out at 5:00 PM, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break, at $20/hour:

1. Raw hours: $\vA{\text{17:00}} - \vB{\text{9:00}} = 8 \text{ hours}$.
2. Total hours worked: $8 - (\vC{30} \div 60) = 7.5 \text{ hours}$ (7h 30m).
3. Total pay: $7.5 \times \vD{20} = 150.00$.
